Montage Deer Valley | Luxury in the Mountains

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

This was an absolutely beautiful and impressive resort that I immediately started looking up all their locations. Upon driving up to the resort from valet to to check-in everyone was SUPER helpful and extremely friendly - genuinely happy to have you as a guest. When there were issues, the staff 100% made it a point to correct and go above-and-beyond to apologize for an issue. The coffee shop on site was delicious with several options for dairy or dairy-free, pastries and truffles - as coffee snobs, the coffee was also to our standards.

Many people in our group enjoyed the amenities of: free smores and the spa and we heard rave reviews on both of these. The resort is built to almost FORCE relaxation with slippers and robes provided in room and heated tile in the bathrooms. There is both a shower and a bathtub and what I LOVE most was our room had a doors and walls that separated the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. The views were spectacular at any spot in the resort.

MAJOR ISSUES/CONS

Unfortunately, we experienced some major issues during our stay:

MAJOR ISSUE #1: THERMOSTAT WAS NOT WORKING. This KILLED our sleep for the

conference that we were in town to attend (the whole reason we stayed at the Montage) A conference that brought in a significant amount of business for this resort. Being from Arizona, I thought we'd freeze, the room was sooo warm we had to open the balcony door (it was 45 outside) to move the thermostat 2 degrees despite it being set to 61 degrees. We fell asleep by 3am the night before the ONE full day of our conference and had to miss out on some events to even function. We went to our friends room on our last night and it cooled instantly. The mechanic came up to our room and left a nice note and chocolates and fixed it, but we requested the repair at 7am and by 1230pm my husband had to double check that someone had checked on the thermostat, to which the response was "oh, we will get right on that, sir." We did report this upon check out and received $100 off that night, but still sucks that we missed out on our once in a lifetime event and losing that much sleep affected us for the rest of our time there

MAJOR ISSUE #2: BLACK MOLD IN THE HUMIDIFIER. The resort offers humidifiers in every room secondary to the dryness of being up in the mountains. We actually even left the humidifier on the cabinet in the foyer of the room so it was the first thing housekeeping saw

when they walked in, but it never got cleaned. Granted it was never something we called attention to

MAJOR ISSUE #3: ROOM SERVICE. I ordered medium-rare steak frites and got rare. I called and they rushed my order and did EXCELLENT at making things right but it still sucked having to pay a lot of money for an incorrect cook and to wait 1.5 hours to finish my dinner (by the time dinner was corrected). Admittedly, the steak cut was possibly more like a tenderloin (which is not what the menu said) and maybe the cook was different. I asked for medium with the corrected order and to me it was still more like a medium rare. Same steak was served as part of our event and I felt the cook was perfect but some people felt it more rare than for the general public

MAJOR ISSUE #4: NEVER NOTIFIED OUR ROOM WAS READY. We checked in before noon and by 730pm still never heard anything - we had to go back to check in to see what happened. Check-in time was 2pm. However, the lady at registration had a pretty in-depth conversation with us how one room WAS ready but the room with the better view was not and was worth waiting for and we were ASSURED that we would be able to check-in "as soon as the room is ready."

ISSUE #5: I reported all of these issues in a survey to the Montage and have posted reviews on Yelp, Tripadvisor and Google and have never had a reply from the company. We did get $100 off as outlined above

For the amount we paid for the resort and considering why we were there with our conference and our large group of people, to not even have these concerns acknowledged is still quite a bit concerning and definitely has us thinking twice about checking out other Montage resorts.
