We had a phenomenal 2-week trip to Greece with a focus on the Greek Islands. This was a trip we took 09/2017 and I still get asked about our itinerary! My goal with the itineraries is to provide SHORT overviews and then I will have detailed reports of the activities later

Our entire trip was booked with Asimina Tours and I am SOO amazingly pleased with the job that they did that the following year we tried booking through them for a trip to Italy. Unfortunately, this didn't pan out, but I for sure will use them again.

Absolutely recommend staying here. Talk about BOU-JEE!!!! It is beautiful resort and the included breakfast was delicious. They have a shuttle that will take you into town and back (that is free). Food is available at the hotel, but is definitely pricey.

ITINERARY

Date of Trip: September 2017

Day 1 - Arrive from Athens

Explore the beautiful Myconian Imperial Hotel. Explore the beach by the hotel: Elia beach.

Day 2 - Take the Shuttle to Mykonos Town and explore (we saw the Windmills and Little Venice). We found several places to stop and hangout (see below)

Day 3 - Spend the morning time at the hotel with drinks and reading my book! Dinner reservations at the restaurant at the hotel

Day 4 - Leave Mykonos for Naxos

Things to Do

WINDMILLS IN CHORA (MYKONOS TOWN)

The iconic landmark of Mykonos. There is a stretch of bars in Little Venice by Katerina's Restaurant and Cocktail Bar that have a phenomenal view of the windmills. I believe the bars we went to may now have been closed, but if you look up Katerina's on the map just walk down the strip by the water and you'll find a spot to sit! NOTE: if you sit right along the water, you might get sprayed!

LITTLE VENICE

Another infamous spot where the houses are on the edge of the sea. As mentioned above, it's a great spot to view the windmills. We found several delicious cocktails and even a coffee-shop like where we lounged and I read my book.

CHURCHES

Mykonos is believed to have almost 800 churches and chapels. Some of the famous ones are Panagia Paraportiani and Agios Nikolaos in Chora along with the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani in Ano Mera.

DELOS

Delos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site mentioned in several blogs on my research - considered one of the most important Archaeological Sites in Greece. According to Mythology, it was the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. If you are a mythology lover, several people recommend you go here

ARMENISTIS LIGHTHOUSE

A hike with some spectacular scenery!

Restaurants

The Restaurants We Tried

Trio Bambini - You will see several locations as you walk throughout the town. We tried

their waffle with ice cream on top and still talk about it 5 years later lol! Definitely a must stop for an indulgent treat

Paraportiana Taverna - A family run restaurant, near Paraportiana Church. They serve traditional Greek food and fresh fish and seafood. Our seafood platter was DELICIOUS and we even got paid a visit from Petros, the infamous Pelican.

The Restaurants We Didn't Get to Try

Katerina's - has a great view of the windmills. The lamb shank is recommended (unbelievably tender) and delcious pita and tzatziki.

Matsuhisa at the Belvedere - daily specials are based on what is freshly caught that day. Recommend the Tiradito, Black Cod with Miso and New Style Sashimi

Captain's - an all-day restaurant that serves breakfast, snacks and great local food. Excellent service and friendly service

Jimmy's Gyros - they have legendary gyros and good value. They are open late, too!

Bars/Nightclubs

Montparnesse - The Piano Bar - Live entertainment with water views

Paradise Club - Pack your stilettos for this nightclub! There is a view of the sun rise if you party all night!

The Belvedere - a beautiful luxury hotel that offers a great sunset cocktail with a phenomenal view overlooking Mykonos

Beaches

TRENDY BEACHES

Paraga Beach - a trendy beach with a famous beach bar (Scorpios). It offers a great photo opp to pretend you're walking on water. The southern beach is calmer and the northern beach has many taverns playing music. Get here by bus, taxi-boat or walk (15-minutes from Platis Yialos)

Psarou Beach - (this beach was favorited in many blogs) - this is where all the celebrities go. Head to N'Ammos taverna for lobster and cocktails

PARTYING BEACHES

Super Paradise Beach - this is the top gay beach on the island. Located next to Paradise Beach and reachable by taxi-boat and local bus. It has been said to be the most beautiful beach in Greece. It is less organized than Paradise Beach and can get very crowded during peak season

Paradise Beach - located between Paranga Beach and Super Paradise Beach. You can get here by footpath from Platis Yialos, bus or taxi-boat. Majority of people on the beach are young and nudists also frequent this beach. Water sports and diving centers are available here along with a fully organized camping spot behind the beach. At night, it transfers into a huge club with music and people dancing on the sand until dawn. Cavo Paradiso is a large complex working like a night club with a pool, restaurant and beach bar.

FAMILY FRIENDLY

Elia - the longest sandy beach of Mykonos and fully organized with a wide choice of taverns, bars, and water sports (water-skiing, parasailing and windsurfing). It is quieter than Paradise, Super Paradise and others. Nudists come to this beach as well and there is a nice view to the left up the hill of the traditional houses. It is walking distance from the Myoconian Imperial Hotel

Lia - one of the most beautiful beaches in Mykonos. Well-organized with umbrellas, sundecks and other facilities. It is recommended for its blue waters and white sand. It is a great spot for diving and snorkeling. There are two restaurants and a beach bar. It is easily reachable if you pass from Ano Mera then follow the signs.

Kalo Livadi - well-organized with many umbrellas and sundecks available and is easy to find space to lay your towel on the sand. They have shallow and clean waters and has a quiet atmosphere. it is found between Kalafatis and Elia beach, 10km from Mykonos Town and 2km from Ano Mera

SECLUDED BEACHES

Agios Sostis - one of the quietest beaches but does not have many amenities. No bus connection is available here, so must come by car or motorbike

Kapari - an unorganized beach behind the chapel of Agios Ioannis. Calm place not far from Chora

A Map of Places

I love using maps when planning my trips in order to see which places would be within walking distance, etc. See our map of places we went here (always easiest to view the map on the desktop)
